Minesweeper - Playing Han’s method!
Minesweeper - a classic game which appears in almost every computer under Microsoft Games. This game was invented by Robert Donner in 1989. For those who do not know about Minesweeper, the objective of the game is to clear a minefield without exposing a mine. This game may look simple and childish to many. However, I have a different view. I see this game as a tool to test your reflexes, mind and visual skills. Minesweeper requires the skills of making precise judgement and quick reflexes when trying to locate the mine. Not to forget that the time is ticking away while we are thinking. You have to look, think and click at the fastest time possible.
How then to play Minesweeper? For the first timer, start with Beginner (which has 10 mines). For the 9 x 9 grid, on the top left hand corner states how many mines on the field while on the top right hand corner is the timer. Let’s start now. (I’m not very good at teaching) Firstly, left click randomly on the minefield first. The numbers on the field actually means how many mines which surrounds the box. In the example below, there is one mine in one of the eight boxes surrounding the 1.
In the following example, just look at the grid to understand how many mines are there surrounding particular location. To place a flag, simply right-click on the place which you think could be a mine. After you cannot locate any more mines, there’s a trick for you to open the grid without mines more quickly. Just click both left and right mouse together on the spot which has its mines flagged. For example, the black circle on some of the numbers.
After you know how to play, then try Intermediate and Expert. Once you are able to set a fast time, then try this new method of mine to play (Han’s method [self-declared]). Clear the minefield without flagging any of the mines like the one shown below. This is the last moment before the final click at the right hand corner.
Try to race against the time. Challenge yourself. Anyway, below are my record times. (The record name wasn’t put intentionally, it was a nickname just for fun way before I started to set faster times) Hope you enjoy this game as much as I do. And if you do not understand my teaching, then use the Help (F1) in Minesweeper for better explanations.
