Korean Movie: My Boss, My Hero
For some time, I’ll be putting up quite some Korean movies reviews on my blog. I have been watching them for the past few days during my free time. Anyway, if you like to watch people being abused (usually by being smacked in the head repeatedly with fists, books, large wooden sticks, and whatever else happens to be handy), then My Boss, My Hero is the movie for you! You psycho!
It is a ‘gangster comedy’ genre from 2001. The movie is about a Korean gang leader, Du-shik (Jeong Joon-Ho), who is ordered to go back to high school by his boss, because the boss is thinking of placing him in a key leadership position and doesn’t believe that his current education level (he dropped out of high school) is sufficient for the job.
This movie isn’t bad, and it’ll probably keep you entertained while you’re watching it. The gang story in the movie is largely ignored except for a big gang-fight ending with all the baseball bats. Instead, the focus is on the story inside the school. Though it is far from perfect, the combination of light-hearted laughs and genuine emotional weight make this satirical look at high school life a solid effort. The film’s closing scene is an indication to its sequel- My Boss, My Teacher. Review on it is on the way.
