Constructing KL Tower

I have started on my structure construction, although it’s kind of behind schedule. I spent my evening last night to buy the materials at Art Friend, in Bras Basah Complex. I spent around $20.00 for the thin wooden plank and hardwood dowel. My friend initially told me to buy bass wood instead of balsa wood, but I still opt for the latter, reason being cheaper and even though it’s easier to break (you can bite through the wood), I can cut through balsa wood easier than bass wood.

The drawing plan was a easy but calculating and planning the length of wood required was a hectic. I have to make sure that I utilise the plank to the utmost. It’s not cheap (for 3/32″ x 4″ x 36″ balsa wood, it cost me $5.05). I went to search in another shop (Sagacity) to compare the price and yeap, it’s still cheaper in Art Friend. Moreover, there are a variety of wood and other handcraft material sold there. The wood there is of better quality too.

Although I spent quite a lot on these stuff, but I think it’s worth it when I view my complete structure (that is provided I finish them and well, they look nice) I’m now around one quarter through my KL Tower. It looks relatively easy but the main obstacle that I face is cutting circle out of the wood. That’s a real headache, given that I’m just using pen-knife. Other than that, I foresee no other major challenges for me in this structure, maybe just some symmetrical problems My strcuture will be quite small compared to my Eiffel Tower (see my old post). It’ll be around 40cm after completion. I’ll upload the photo of completed structure when I’m done. After this, my next target will be Shanghai Oriental Tower. Gonna talk more about it in my coming posts.
