Night Cycling

Posted on July 30th, 2006 in Place of interests, Sports by yeehan

I just had my first night cycling in Singapore last Friday. It was a great outing together with my Union Camp Orientation Group- KAKA. In total, 23 of us set off from East Coast Park at 11pm. The route that we cycled- ECP to Kallang Stadium McD to Merlion Park to Lau Pa Sat to Takashimaya to SMU Kopitiam to Singapore Indoor Stadium to ECP. Total distance cycled was at least 20km, I think. We had our supper at Lau Pa Sat at around 1.30am. And there are still quite some stalls open at that time.

Yeap, I think we are well-equiped in this expedition. Thanks to Jeremy and Soon Kit for planning out the route (We even printed out the map!!!) We rented a van, brought walkie talkies and ice-box. So much welfare and safety measures taken care of. Haha. Although it’s quite tiring cycling the whole night (though we had a few stops), this outing was a success. Really had an enjoyable time with the freshmen and councillors. Thankfully nothing went wrong during this night cycling (only got one or two bicycle problems).

Some photos taken during that night.

NUS Commencement 2006

Posted on July 8th, 2006 in Uncategorized by yeehan

I attended the NUS Commencement main ceremony yesterday. I still remember when I went to the same venue, University Cultural Centre, almost two years ago for my sister’s commencement, with my parents. Feel like it was just yesterday. The difference between 2004 and 2006 was that President SR Nathan officiated the ceremony two years back but this time, it was the Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Andrew Chew as Pres. Nathan unable to attend. This year’s ceremony was a bit special too, because two of Singapore’s most powerful men attended as well; MM Lee Kuan Yew and PM Lee Hsien Loong. I assume they are there for PM’s daughter, who graduated with Masters in Architecture and Bachelor of Arts. They could also be there for His Excellency Mr. Li Lanqing, former vice premier of People’s Republic of China. He was conferred Doctor of Letters for his contribution.

This commencement is different from the past years. All the while, it would be in orange and blue colour (NUS colour) but this year, it’s colourful. But I still enjoy the ceremony 2 years back- my BiG SisTa was the valedictorian. She was natural and articulate. Really proud of her. This year’s valedictorian was a bit serious and yea, nevertheless, there was a fun element in his speech; when he accidentally knocked the microphone with his hands. =p

Yeap, I had a memorable time there with part of the exco members and my other sister who was there also. (Though it was a bit tiring to sit in this (unusually) long ceremony). Usually it ends after the valedictorian’s speech but this time, we have a break before the second half for H.E. Li Lanqing. Could be due to the influence of World Cup.

Korean Movie: Bungee Jumping of Their Own

Posted on July 4th, 2006 in Korean, Movies by yeehan

The English title definitely does not sound good. Weird or perhaps unusual I would say. However, the storyline is worth commenting. In this 2001 movie, Lee Byung-hun stars as In-woo who meets the love of his life (starring the late Lee Eun-ju) but shortly afterwards has to leave her because he is ordered to join the military for two obligatory years. 17 years later, In-woo, a married teacher with one daugther, recalls back his first love when one of his students reawakens his memory of the girl he once loved. Soon, a miraculous chain of events is set in motion that leads to twists & surprises. Yeap, you’ll be surprise to find out who’s the student who relives In-woo’s memory. This is the beauty of this movie; the originality of the storyline. A nice movie not to be missed.
