Korean Drama: Princess Hours (Goong)
Princess Hours or more commonly known as Goong (2006) is a romantic korean drama. Story evolves around the current Crown Prince of the Korean royal family (This is just a fiction. Korea is no longer ruled by kings). The story started off with a deal made by the previous emperor and his good friend that their grandchildren will get married to each other. At that time, the royal grandchild intended was Yul but when Yul’s dad (Crown Prince at that time) died in an accident, then Shin (Joo Ji Hoon), Yul’s cousin, took over as the Crown Prince after the emperor passed away.
But Shin has someone whom he liked (Hyo Rin) and decided to propose to her. Shin was rejected so he agreed to take up the arranged marriage with Chae-kyung (Yoon Eun Hye). However, he still hangs around with Hyo Rin quite often. Meanwhile, Yul who just came back from overseas, fell in love with Chae-kyung. As both Shin and Chae-kyung are now the Crown Prince and Princess of Korea, their quite intimate relations with Hyo Rin and Yul respectively creates rumours after rumours, which jeopardise the status of the royal family.
After living with Chae-kyung for long, Shin began to like her. But will he be too late to prevent Yul from taking her? At the end of this drama, there was a little unexpected twist but still an acceptable one. Anyway, Princess Hours 2 is in the making.

This is the first korean novela that I really love so much.I like Shin,being a prince suits him.I like Yul’s character also,he’s like a baby that needs somebody to take care of him.Chaekyung’s role was cute also.She’s so carefree and clueless.It suits her personality.All in all the mv was great.

” yeah i agree, this is the 2nd korean drama i have watched and i LOVED it. The story line is very very good and it is quite easy to follow for someone who doesnt understant korean!!! Besides the beautiful and touching storyline, this drama also shows some of the best scenery of Korea - including panoramic views and gardens. I wonder where their shooting locations are ??? Very gorgeous and lots of colours which is great rahter than just simple plain boring colours. I have watch the whole episodes, total of 24 episodes isn’t??? But i wish that the ending could be a bit more that what it is….. But i loved this series, so sad and funny at the same time. ”

I like the casts. Joo Ji Hoon is great. He really suits to act as a cool Crown Prince.Kim Jung Hoon is handsome, cute too. Many fans him.But he is more suitable to act as a star/singer than as a prince anyway (in my opinion)
Song Ji Hye is beautifil and elegant.(Even I don’t like her to be the third person betwen Shin and Chae-kyung) .But she suits to act as Hyo Rin,an elegant rich girl that worth to be loved by royal family.
And as for Yoon Eun Hye. She is very cute and funny. She is really great in acting as Chae-kyung,sometime funny, sometime sad…Great!
I like the setting,the songs, the scenery, the story,I think I like ALL ………even the Fashion…I love them
It’s ALMOST perfect…
Unfortunatelly the ending is not as EXCITING as I hope….The”FLOWING” of the last episod is a bit rough and it looks like “being FORCED” to end soon. This series should be added 1 episod more due to get the SMOOTH ending.(not 24 episod but 25) before jump to the next season (Goong 2)
But still…I really love this Goong. Can’t wait for the next season.

I just finish watching it…. gosH! it’s really nice.. at the same time very comical.. The immensely popular “Goong – Sassy Princess†is scheduled to begin shooting its sequel in October. However, it was still unclear whether the original leads will continue their performance. On the 15th, when director Hwang Inroe accepted an interview, he finally revealed and confirmed that “Goong II†will have an entirely new cast. The four leads Ju Ji Hoon, Yoon Eun Hye, Kim Jung Hoon and Song Ji Hyo will not participate in the sequel.
Although many fans of “Goong†were filled with anticipation for the confirmation of the four leads, but they will have to be disappointed. Hwang Inroe, who is responsible for the shooting of “Goong IIâ€, expressed: “Both Ju Ji Hoon and Song Ji Hyo have decided to do another work. Yoon Eun Hye has another reason, but the three of them have told me that they were unable to film the sequel. Only Kim Jung Hoon has promised to accept it. Therefore “Goong II†will be shown to the viewers with an entirely new cast as well as a different plot.†Regarding the fact that he has to prepare four new people to take up these characters, Hwang Inroe could hardly conceal that he feels abandoned.
The ending of “Goong†revealed that ultimately Lee Shin and Lee Yul didn’t inherit the throne, leading to the temporarily ascension of Shin’s sister Hyemyeong. The sequel will thus continue with this plot as the palace discovers the existence of a royal grandson living among commoners. In turns out that he have absolutely no clue about his identity. After he graduated from high school, he works as a delivery boy. He didn’t know until the palace invited him to come and he suddenly became a member of the imperial family in one night. Upon his entrance in the palace, he began his training. He will be groomed to become emperor. The inspiration for this plot came from the true story of the Joseon dynasty where a commoner became the emperor.

I have just completed watching the whole serial of Goong. Yoon Eun Hye is fantastically adorable!! I thought Kim in Full House was already very adorable. She is very different from Kim. Joo Ji Hoon (shin) finally fall in love with her. However, I feel the last episode could be more impactful..it is still acceptable.

Probably I’ve grown out from watching fairy-tale romantic drama, however, this whole series of Goong though the characters are nineteen years olds, depicts the struggle of humans in a very light yet truthful way to adjust to their surroundings and to nourish love…
Life is full of complements…… pessimistic ( the Prince Shin ) with optimistic Princess …… the joi de viver Princess and the ever decorous Shin…….

I just don’t like ‘Yul’ in Goong, he looks so sissy to me! I don’t understand why a lot of girl just like him. Afterall, his acting is lousy. I can only agree that he looks pretty. When i first watch Goong, my eye just cast on ‘Shin’. He’s gorgeous and cool. He’s should be in this acting industry. He’s bright future is just ahead of him! Anyway, if u are ‘Yul’ fans, please don’t be angry.

Just so sad that Goong 2 will have a different story with a completely different cast. Just hope that in the future, the director will make Goong 3 with the cast of Goong1. And that this time, he gives the cast a long advance notice so that they can set aside time to schedule the filming.

I just love Goong!!!..I cant wait for it to be shown on the local channel where it will be dub in our dialect(dec 2006)..but curious me I already bought a DVD set beforehand because Ive heard such great reviews about the show and im happy to say that it doesnt disappoint!!!..I commend the actors even though none had experiences in acting and of course the staff..everyone did such a great job and thats why it so successful..you really could tell that its a labor of love=)..anyway It is true that none of the original cast will be coming back on the 2nd season but i hope the “replacements” will also do a good job. they have big shoes to fill. ..I guess its ok that theyll not return coz usually sequels are really not that successful..ergo looka at meteor garden 2.it was such a disappointment..just remember that some good thing must end…ciao!!

i already watched goong and very satisfied with the ending. It is ok for shin and chae young but how about yul…poor him…for all this time…his effort to get back his right but been outcast once again…..it’s not his fault…..to be blame of….when i watched him, i can feel his pain losing someone and something that belong to him….i can’t wait to watch goong 2. i hope all the cast are still acting this drama again. maybe yul come back to korean quietly…..shin sister is going to marry. shin, chae young and their new born baby go to visit royal family in korea, you rin has achieve her career and has boyfriend (with the boy who likes her and protect her - shin friend). chae young friend with shin friend (speaky) together. They come back and do reunion. everybody happy with careers and life….maybe not yul…….maybe yul come back to korea but not meet others…..is yul need to marry after out from palace? because the royal family has punish yul to marry and stay out of palace…..poor yul….maybe yul sick…..or do business in korea….he still can meet his grandma, right? i can’t wait to watch goong 2….please producer of goong, please bring back the original cast of goong……you maybe can add a few new actor/actress. but please bring back the original cast. i love yul so much…although he is older than shin but he has baby face and look much younger……….i notice that all the actor/actress in korea love and like to further study….good…keep it up……..learn as much as knowledge as you can….Bye….

Oppss sorry guys, Goong is just not my type. too draggy and bored. It was really killing me to finish it up. Fortunately it was ok toward d end (a few humour scene helps me from fall asleep). Overall, just another so so kdrama.

after full house, i’m getting bored watching other korean drama but glad to watch this goong recently and bring back the interest in watching korean drama.

Hi there! Do the CD shops in Singapore carry Howl’s CD which includes the songs featured in Princess Hours but not included in Princess Hours’ OST?
This is a great series! For once I can still stay awake despite sleeping 4.5 hours per night for 3 consecutive nights watching the show. ^^

They suit the characters they played esp.as the Crown Prince and Crown Princess,and I would like to see them again in Goong 2.I just can’t wait to watch the series here in the Philippines in December,translated in our own dialect.I also fell in love with the OST.Great job for the entire cast and crew of this korean drama series,the BEST ever!!!

Do anyone wan to noe that in the Goong season2 Yul and his co-star will not be in …so my friend mother which work there say season 2 is about shin goon and yul goon the 2 prince,which give up the places of becoming the king to shin older sister. season 2 is about errr,,,the story of shin and yul which live outside the palace.that want her’s mum told mii …she won’t say more and want mii to watch my self…..hope u will also enjoy the show of season 2

Just finished watching Goong and it’s really an AmazinG and Exciting Story….My sister just can’t wait for the next Goong part 2, hope there will be childrens by then…hehe…. Does it really have a goong part 2, can’t wait to see it, my sis got really happy that you said there’s a goong part… she’s gone crazy watching the Goong last episode hehe…. Actually i hope Shin & Chae Kyung will be in it as a parent; remembering & cherishing romance in their older age just like before(just like His Majesty & Suh Hwa Young) wahahah!

Hi! my name is mara from the Phil. I saw this korean drama in the TV. so I decided to bought some, after that I started to search for it in the internet and watch it all over again. When I heard about the 2nd sequel I was so surprised and became alive, the movie I saw in the first part is not complete so I was so disappointed, even if I already knew about the 2nd part, I still feel sad bec. they haved change the story and the cast, so I wish to continue what the 1st sequel had left. That’s all, the movie was grea. It is the most amazing story, movie I have ever seen. It is already highly top rated for sure. Read somewhere that Goong S is Goong S, but theres still a Season Goong 2 after Goong S.
Rumors said that at near ending of Goong S will have the old cast back to make ending for so that Goong 2 will be able to continue from Goong S.
Reason for not using old cast in Goong S what i read is that 3 Actors/Actress are not able to film it.
All the above are just where i read somewhere, may not be a reliable source.

Hi I’m lenggay form the Philippines, I live and work in UK, I love Korean dramas sice full house and most of the dramas I’ve downloaded thru d-addicts, (thank goodness for broadband) It took me a while to finish downloading GOOng, as I have heard through reviews that its actually good..well it has exceeded my expectation..very original storyline (korea having a monarch?, english people are not all agaist or pro monarchy themselves..and they all touched on that.. feelings, emotions, brilliant love triangle.. between parents and the next generation.. what more ..
I watched it on my days off as a marathon ful 24 episodes in 2 days…it was that good like a good book that you cant put down, the actors are refreshing as well..the kiss was out of this world..the first time they really kissed and the one on the high street was just original..its in fact one of the best kisses I’ve seen in a drama since clark gable and vivian leigh in gone with the wind..

hello, just to update everyone, goong s is not the sequel to our much beloved goong, its a spinoff, different storyline,but the cast is great,nway looking forward to watch it too. the real sequel will not be aired until late 2007 or early 2008 (lots of licencing rights etc etc etc.. and hopefully it will have the original price Shin and chaeunyang together again..)

I am sorry to tell this but I think Yul(Troy) is more deserving to be with Chae Kyung(Janelle) becasue even if they just met up,Yul already cared for her.Unlike Shin(Gian), he is so demanding. He gets what he wants but in love, he is so zero.He was just started to like Chae Kyung(Janelle) when time passed and they are living together in the palace,which brought each other to see often.I feel so sorry for Yul even he didn’t win Chae Kyung’s love.

hello princess hour fans, i am a mother of two and already 36 years of age. i have finished watching the whole story and i must say that it is soooooooooo nice. i felt young again. i have laughed, cried and most of all, re-discover what love is really about. sacrifice, patience and changing yourself for the best for the person you truly love. all of these, you can find in the crown prince, crown princess and prince yul’s character. Young they maybe, they turned out to be the most responsible adult with their decision at the end of the story. the crown princess’ sacrifice for the crown prince is admirable.

OMG! This is one sweet and funny series. Love all the characters, most especially Prince Shin and Chae Kyung. A friend told me about this series, she was a Koreanovela fan. I didn’t think of it much then, but when I tried watching it in YouTube…I GOT HOOKED!! It was so cute! I even bought a DVD of it and shared it with my other friends. I really love this series. I even watch it sometimes in our local channel wherein it was dubbed into our language, but I prefer the Korean with English subs. I kinda like the feeling more of actually hearing the actor’s/actress’ real voice. Gosh! Whoever in this world who hasn’t watched it yet, migosh! They’re missing a big part of their “cute” life
