Goodbye plugs and wires…

Frustrated about not being able to find an unused power supply socket to charge your laptop when you are in the library? Or having to see the whole study room or student lounge’s power socket fully occupied? How about out in the city or in the MRT and trying to use your laptop (or any other electronic gadgets) when the battery is completely flat.

Fear not, because researchers in the US have “outlined a relatively simple system that could deliver power to devices such as laptop computers or MP3 players wirelessly. ” Yeap, it’s mathematically possible and computer models have suggested it would work although no real devices have been created to test. This wireless energy transfer works on the concept of “resonance”. (remember your physics on vibrations?)

So it’ll be possible in the future that we’ll be using our electronic gadgets without having to bring adapters along to charge the batteries. It’ll be an ideal solution for most users but I think for the suppliers or some consumers, how will it be possible to determine whether anyone tapped into your wireless energy, making you pay on their behalf. With great techonolgy, there will inevitably have problems that hopped along. But it’ll be still quite some time before this technology is fully developed.
