SF for a year

Posted on July 30th, 2007 in Uncategorized by yeehan

One more week to go. I’m feeling excited yet anxious of what’s awaiting me for the next one year. I have decided to take this path. In fact, I have already started walking, albeit a short distance. It has been never easy during the preparation and the pre-departure processes. There are lots of tumbling blocks along the way and there were tough times that were just too hard to swallow. I managed to pull myself through but I know there will be more to come. I must continue to stay strong and fight all my way through. I know that this end of this path will lead me to better, brighter paths (I do hope so).

“There will be work to complete, fun to enjoy, company to share with and promise to fulfill. But never forget that there are loved ones who care, worry and be happy for you. Do tread the paths with care and responsibility.”

I will.

The road seems unfamiliar and foreign. But I have heard great successes from those who walked the path. I hope to be one some day. SF, I’m ready for you!

A touch with nature- Singapore Botanic Gardens

Posted on July 26th, 2007 in Place of interests by yeehan

I took a stroll to Singapore Botanic Gardens after my appointment at the embassy nearby. I have never been to this Garden during my stay here and I guess it’s a perfect timing for me to take a look at this place before I fly off.

The weather that day seems threatening but it rained only when I left the place. So, I had a nice walk across the Garden, though perspired a bit during my 45 mins walk from Tanglin Gate to Bukit Timah. (Tanglin Gate is near Gleneagles Hospital) That was a long walk but along the way, I found some interesting sites.

There’s this Bonsai corner. Oh man, I simply love bonsai- how the “dwarf trees” looks, the branches, textures. Bonsai is the art of aesthetic miniaturization of trees by growing them in containers. I managed to spot a banana bonsai too.

There’s also this cacti garden. It’s nicely landscaped and it looked a bit like one of the cacti farms in Cameron Highlands (a small scale one).

Here are some random shorts of the garden. It’s a good get-a-way from every day’s work and perhaps a better and healthier place to go to. You can relax your mind and enjoy the greenery of the trees, birds chirping and flowers blossoming (In National Orchid Garden of course).

Crossfire Paintball @ Singapore Discovery Centre

Posted on July 22nd, 2007 in Place of interests by yeehan

I went for such an exciting event organised by one of my friends- Crossfire Paintball. It was situated in Singapore Discover Centre.

What is Paintball in the first place?
“Paintball is one of the world’s most exciting participative sport. It is a sport in which men and women, young and old compete equally. Size and strength are not as important as intelligence and determination. Like a game of chess, being able to think quickly and decisively is what makes you a star. Paintball is also a character-building sport. Players learn the importance of teamwork and gain self-confidence while developing leadership abilities. But, above all, Paintball is fun! Once the adrenaline starts pumping you can’t help but love the thrill of the game!

Paintball teaches co-operation, teamwork and friendly competition. Unlike other sports, violence has no place in the game of paintball.”

Paintball does:
* Teach you the importance of teamwork
* Allow you to gain self-confidence
* Helps you develop basic leadership skills
* Develops strategic thinking
* Teach quick and decisive actions.
Paintball does not:
* Promote violence
* Glorify war
* Teach people how to shoot a gun
* Prepare you for the military.

How much is the cost to play at SDC?
A game costs $300 for 10 players. Additional players are at $35 each. Minimum 8 players to start the game and maximum 15 players per game slot (2hrs). Additional 20 paintballs(1 magazine) are available at $10 per person or 40 paintballs(2 magazines) at $15 per person. Booking will only be confirmed upon payment of deposit of $100. You can either book online or by telephone to 6792 6188. (But with effect from 23 July 2007, Crossfire Paintball is not available for individual booking. You’ll have to take up the teambuilding packages.)

You must be above 18 to play legally. If you are between 15-17, your parents have to sign the waiver form.

You can read more from the website link: Crossfire Paintball

Let’s now talk about my paintball experience. For someone who has not been to national service, I find that holding and running around with the M-16 paintgun is not as easy as I thought. You have to try to eliminate your opponents and at the same time, preventing yourself from being shot. The not so good points are that the paintgun only have a range of about 10-15 metres and the “ammunition” travels in a projectile motion. What you aim is not what you shoot. And you cannot fire too close at your opponent. Else, you may get bruises. I am no kidding. (But I was not shot at during the elimination round! Yay!) Also, the head gear is a bit smelly which you have to wear all the time in the arena. Sometimes, the ammo may get stuck. (due to tear and wear)

What are the great points? You’ll have the real fun and excitement of having to shoot around using the ‘M-16′. You’ll get a feel of the shooting scenes in the movies. You’ll keep playing and you find that the time allocated to you is really really very short. It was a great bonding session. I had a GREAT time there.

Here are some shots taken during the session:

Do I look like the good guy or bad guy? Haha. Of course I am the good one. I was with the ‘SAF’ team!

Animal Kingdom PE

Posted on July 18th, 2007 in Funny, Japan, Videos by yeehan

Should I call this a Bull-key or Mon-dog partnership? It’s amazing to see how these animals can do such things. This video shows a Japanese exercise TV game show features a competition with two competitive teams that are by two groups of 19 young Japanese girls and 18 boys against…what a “monkey,” and a….”bulldog” ????

What the hell is going on ? Anyway, the object of this competition is to show the audience on how many warm-up exercises and of course sit-ups you can do. The boys did approximately did more than girls like about 30 something or more, the girls, were about the same as them. However, the monkey using a bulldog for sit-ups is pretty damn funny !!! It did 12 sit-ups.

That’s amazing!

Tetris- A different version

Posted on July 11th, 2007 in Funny, Japan by yeehan

Ever wonder how it feel like to be a human tetris? In this Japanese TV Show, two groups of people tried out the game. It is very funny to see how they are being tricked to do those sort of funny poses. It is also a bit unfair to the blue team. Nevertheless, quite interesting to see such funny acts. Japan has a lot of such funny TV Game Shows. Enjoy the clip.

Japanese tv tetris game

This is the other TV Show which I love. Contestants come out with interesting acts to see who can gain highest points. There are lots of such clips which you can find easily. Seems like Japan is doing well in their humour entertainment industry.
